Heavy rain in Fukui Prefecture

Heavy rain fell intermittently across Fukui Prefecture from the night of 29 August, and at 4:30 a.m. on 30 August, the Japan Meteorological Agency issued a “Level 5 Emergency Warning for Heavy Rain” for the cities of Fukui, Ōno and Katsuyama. According to Fukui Prefecture, as of 9:00 a.m. on 1 September, flooding had been reported at 165 residential buildings and 31 non-residential buildings. According to media reports, parts of the Fukui Airport, including the runway and the apron, were also flooded, while road flooding occurred in Sakai. NHK released footage taken by its drone on 30 August, showing mud-coloured flooding in Maruoka, Sakai.
