US President Trump signs executive order requiring the US Department of the Interior to rename Lake Ontario as Lake America
US President Donald Trump signed an executive order requiring the US Department of the Interior to rename Lake Ontario as Lake America within 30 days. According to the Government of Canada, “Ontario” derives from the Iroquois word “kanadario” or “skanadario”, meaning “sparkling water”, and the word was first recorded in writing by European explorers in 1641. When the various parts of Canada formed a federation in 1867, the name of Lake Ontario was formally adopted for the province of Ontario.
