Four paintings by Antonello da Messina stolen from Museo Regionale di Messina

On the evening of 15 August, four works by the 15th-century Renaissance painter Antonello da Messina were stolen from the Museo Regionale di Messina in Sicily, Italy. They included three of the five surviving panels of the wooden-panel work Polittico di San Gregorio, as well as a double-sided painting depicting the Virgin and Child with a Franciscan monk on the front and Christ on the reverse. According to reports, the thieves bypassed the museum's alarm system and broke into a secure display case.
